For Lack of Knowledge My People Perish
Of all the dreaded diseases that have fallen upon mankind, I am thoroughly convinced that ignorance is more destructive to the human family than all the others combined. Very contrary to human reasoning, what you don’t know can and does harm you. In fact, under certain circumstances it will kill you. This is especially true of our Christian walk.
Yasha said that knowing truth would release us from the bondage of sin. That would surely imply that if we do not know the truth, we remain in bondage to the carnal mind, which is another terminology for spiritual ignorance. Spiritual ignorance produces death.
We have one Bible and thousands of opinions of what that one Bible says. It amazes me that people who have never read the Bible have the audacity to express their opinion about its message. Many people are still convinced that Eve sinned by eating an apple. “Unaware of the ignorance of their assumption, they staunchly proclaim, “If the Bible says it, I accept it without question.” If you told them she picked her fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil they would never believe it.
Knowledge is found in books and is given by the Holy Spirit. Knowledge is not received by partaking of the fruit of a natural tree.
If everyone would search the Scripture diligently, we would come unto oneness in truth as surely as the Father and Son were one in word and deed.
The division is not the results of the Bible being difficult to understand. The problem arises when we try to read the Bible with our carnal understanding, “For what man knows the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of Yahweh knows no man, but the Spirit of Yahweh. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of Yahweh; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of Yahweh. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Ghost teaches; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of Yahweh: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned,” 1 Corinthians 2:11-14.
If our understanding of the Gospel message is one that is commonly understood by the masses, we should be aware that we are not hearing from the Spirit of revelation. But if we are willing to drop all our preconceived ideas and seek for truth from the Spirit of Truth, the Spirit will respond to our call. But if we are afraid to depart from the opinion of the masses, we will not understand Yahweh’s revealed Word.
The Holy Spirit was given as a guide, comforter, and a teacher. These three ministries convey three important facts: (1) The fact that we need a guide tells us that we are on a journey, which demands a guide to keep us on our path. (2) Our need for a teacher indicates there are some things that are beneficial to us that we need and do not know. These things must be very important to us sense Yahweh offers us a heaven-sent teacher to educate us. (3) The third message we hear in this promise is the Comforter: Yahweh knew we would suffer greatly, so much so that he sent us a Healer, and a heaven-anointed Psychiatrist. This should tell us that there are to be problems as we travel our journey. But we also see that provision is already made for every problem that confronts us. Christians must suffer, but unbelievers are not exempt from pain and suffering. The true Christian suffers less because he understands the necessity of it and walks by faith.
