The Comforter

The Comforter

Yasha said, “If you love me, keep my commandments, and I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another comforter, that he may abide with you forever, the Spirit of Truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it sees him not, neither knows him: but ye know him; for he dwells (present tense) with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. … But the comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. And when he is come he will reprove the world of sin….” John 14:15-18, 26; 16:8.

The Holy Spirit is here to teach, guide, and comfort those that love Yahweh and keep his commandments. But he was not sent to comfort the ungodly; he was sent to reprove them.

When a person is reproved by the Spirit of Yahweh, it is for the purpose of convincing them of Yahweh’s benefits in goodness and awakening them to the awful effect of wickedness. If this is accomplished, the sinner will turn from his wicked ways and live. This, of course, would be to the greatest comfort to the one being reproved, but as long as the person is not turning from his wickedness, the work of the Spirit is a reproving work. He is not attempting to comfort him in his sins; quite to the contrary, the Spirit of Truth makes the man of the world very uncomfortable in his sins. This is that which creates a desire to change.

A lifestyle that is so compatible with the world that it makes sinners and ungodly people feel at ease in their sins is not a Holy Spirit-filled life. The Holy Spirit will, wherever he operates, reprove the world of sin. If your spirit has no reproving effect on the sinners you come in contact with, ask Yahweh to reveal your motivation to you. It could be that you are more interested in your own self-image and social acceptance than you are in the spiritual well-being of those with whom you fellowship. The church could be only a social gathering place that satisfies your need for social acceptance and a favorable self-esteem. Remember, Yahweh wants us to have the testimony of Yasha Christ (Rev. 12:17).

If the world hated Yasha, they will hate you also, but if you are their own they will love you. Know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity to Yahweh? See John 15:18-19 and James 4:4.

It is the Spirit and not the mouth that reproves the world of sin. When Judas betrayed Yasha, Yasha stood silent before him, yet Judas was so reproved of his actions that he immediately returned the money that was payment for his betrayal and went out and hung himself. If we go condemning, we will be doing it through our own spirit. But, if we go in the power and love of the Spirit of Yahweh, the world around us will be reproved.
